Review

Light and dark. Peace and chaos.
This is the best description of A Beautiful Dark. Its those things thrown together and still against each other with a common interest. Skye Parker.
On her seventeenth birthday, Skye's world his turned upside down by two incredibly hott guys. Asher and Devin. But what are they really? And what is Skye?
I first fell in love with Angels and Fallen Angels when I found the Lauren Kate's Fallen series and they became my favorite when I met my long standing book boyfriend Patch from Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush saga. This book fits with those. It's a great book and a new take on Angels and Fallen Angels. I really liked it. I loved the characters, although at times Skye and her friends talked a little younger than seventeen year olds do to me. Although, they did a lot of things I'd expect from them. I also thought that maybe Skye's, um... developement? could have shown through a little more than just a little here and there and then with one big instance. I get that maybe it just sort of accumulated to one big moment, but I just felt there could have been more to lead up to it. I felt for Skye because she really had no guidance and I hope in the next books maybe she will find something from her parents or that her Aunt knows more than she lets on. Skye is really alone and kind of just being tethered along.
Asher and Devin. I really liked. They kind of (big kind of) reminded me of Daniel and Cam from Fallen. I felt for Devin he was truely a puppet and appeared to fight it as much as he could and I hope he becmes more his own in books to come. Asher, who was a free spirit, wasn't as free as he made himself appear. He did have rules... he just treated them as guidelines. I really liked Asher and have to say i'm team Asher. He reminded me a lot of Cam and I loved Cam, lol. I will be checking out A Fractured Light soon!
Quotes:
Pg. 275
"They were so different. Light and dark. Peace and chaos. If I had a choice, I didn't know which I would choose. Would my powers choose for me?"
Pg. 306
"Asher and Devin stood with their mouths agape, staring at me. "What did you do?" Devin demanded. "How did you do that?"
"Not bad," Asher said, smirking. "Maybe next time, you could forget to reverse the rock, though, save us all from Devin."
Pg. 341
"We were quiet for a few minutes. I leaned my head on his chest and listened to the sound of his breathing.
"You don't have a heartbeat," I realized.
"Does that bother you?" he asked.
"No." I thought for a minute. "As long as you can feel things and care about things."
"It's a misconception that you need a heart to love," Asher whispered into my hair.
I looked at him, the way his eyes crinckled at the corners even though his mouth stayed so serious. He had a little dimple near the left side of his chin.
I kissed him, and he wrapped the heavy wool blanket tighter around us as the moon rose brighter in the sky."
