Review

So this was my first ever audiobook. It wasn't too bad, but I don't know if I will be doing a whole lot of them. I mean its great while doing the dishes or laundry or any other housework or even over the car stereo, but just laying around or sitting around listening was hard for me. I need to be doing something otherwise I get way to distracted by stupid stuff around me. I also think I may have been anle to read it faster than it took to listen to it. I did like the narrator though. She has a great voice and puts a lot of emotion and action into her voice. She was easy to listen to and get behind.
As far as the story goes, I liked it. There really wasn't anyway outward romance. It was more laid back "I have a crush on you" talk and hanging out. It was more courtly and build up to something, but that was sadly cut short. There also was a whole lot going on in a short time. Shit really did hit the fan for Anita. I loved the "who done it" plot. I like a good crime drama or mystery every now and again. This was a good fix. I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about the series and decided to see for myself. I can't say that I will be a diehard fan, but it was good and I will pick up the other books over time. I will say that there seemed to be a lot of fill in and just stuff being said that I thought did not need to be there and made the book drag once in a while.
The characters were great. Hamilton gave a huge variety of personalities in this book and I am assuming we will be seeing most throughout the reast of the series. Anita was a strong character, but at times you wanted to shake her. I liked Phillip. Edward was pretty great and Jean Claude well... I liked him a lot. He would probably be my main reason for continuing the series. His relationship with Anita sounds like it'd be fun to see evolve. Now the characters Hamilton meant for us to dislike... man, did I dislike them! She is good at creating the bad guys for sure. I wanted to do Anita's job for her at times.
So it was a decent audiobook experience for me. I will be listening to more in the future and the Anita Blake series is one I will be reading more of.
