Will Grayson, Will Grayson - 'John Green', 'David Levithan'
I had never heard of Will Grayson, Will Grayson until Evie at Bookish told me about it for the TBR Challenge Monthly Read-a-Long. I had also never read any books by either John Green or David Levithan. I was a little leery going into this because the book wasn't what I usually read, but I'm always willing to give something new a shot and I was pleasantly surprised. Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a great read and is going on my favorites list.
The book is told from two different male point of views, Will Grayson and Will Grayson. We follow both characters, whom are very different from one another, live their daily lives when we get a surprising crossroad and their lives intersect. We see both Will's gain a little more confidence and begin to overcome their insecurities. I like books with several different POV's and this one was down fantastically. Each Will had his own tone and type to show the different POV. Will #1 had a more formal tone. He was a lighter character, but was slightly withfrawn socially. His POV was written in regular type. He was pretty funny and he had his group of friends... Tiny and Jane. I LOVED Jane. She had a spunky personality. I liked how she could handle Will and Tiny. Tiny was a good character too. He was a sweetheart, but had the tendency to be self-centered and at times a jerk. Will #2 was a little darker and depressed. He had a whole slew of issues. He was more sarcastic and slightly cynical and was hilarious. Most of my favorite quotes were his. His POV was written entirely in lower case and "internet speak". He rarely used quotations, rather did his dialogue in chat room format. He had his mother and Maura. His mom really did try and I liked her. We see their relationship grow throughout his POV. Now Maura I began to like, but she just... ruined that. She was more cynical than Will #2 even and does some shady things. Too me she became toxic. I really enjoyed and didn't expect how their lives intersected. I liked it and it made for a great story.
I really went more into depth on the story in the discussion posts (I missed the last though). This made for a great discussion book. It was a great read and I enjoyed it. I'm glad I decided to give it a try and I will have to look into other books by either author.
